That is completely normal. That specific registry subkey (
PointAndPrint) often doesn't exist by default because Windows creates it only when policies are explicitly modified. You can simply create it yourself. Here is how to add it:
Create the Missing Key
- In the Registry Editor on the Windows 10 PC, navigate back to:Plaintext
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers(If thePrinterskey itself is missing underWindows NT, right-clickWindows NT, select New > Key, and name itPrinters). - Right-click the
Printerskey, select New > Key, and name it:PlaintextPointAndPrint - Click on the new PointAndPrint key.
- Right-click in the empty space on the right side, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it:Plaintext
RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministrators - Double-click
RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministratorsand ensure its value data is set to0.
Verification
- Check that
RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministratorsshows a value of0in the Data column. - Restart the Print Spooler service in
services.mscto apply the changes, then try connecting from Windows 7 again.
